Welcome To The Gold Shop
We are located in downtown Dahlonega, Georgia. The city of Dahlonega is considered by many to be the site of America’s first major gold rush. Prospectors from all over the United States began flocking to Dahlonega, just as soon as word leaked out that gold had been discovered. The official start of the Georgia gold rush began is considered to be 1829.
The owner of The Gold Shop is Rachel Wilkerson. Many years ago, Rachel and her husband actually mined for gold. Their mill was located approximately 14 miles north of the downtown area of Dahlonega. That gold mine is still in existence today. While the Dahlonega area was heavily mined in the 1800’s, people still find gold today in local streams and various mountainous locations in and around the Lumpkin County area.
